Viele Mundstückhersteller arbeiten mit Modellbezeichnungen, die nur unzureichende Rückschlüsse auf Kesseldurchmesser, Kesseltiefe und Randkontur zulassen.

Frühzeitig erkennt Roland Klier die Nachteile, die dadurch für den Bläser auf der Suche nach seinem Mundstück entstehen. Im Jahr 1964 konzipiert er mit der Exclusive Linie ein logisches und leicht verständliches Bezeichnungssystem, das anhand der Modellnummer alle für den Bläser relevanten Daten auf den ersten Blick erkennen lässt.

Darüber hinaus entwickelt er ein revolutionäres Konzept in der Kombination von Kessel, Bohrung und Rückbohrung, das den Einsatz der Klier-Mundstücke in jeder musikalischen Stilistik ermöglicht.

Die ungewöhnlich große Auswahl in der Exclusive Linie bietet jedem Bläser die Möglichkeit, sein persönliches Mundstück zu finden. Zudem sind die Randkonturen von Trompeten-, Kornett oder Flügelhornmundstücken bei gleichem Kesseldurchmesser identisch. Dies ermöglicht dem Bläser ein problemloses, schnelles Auswechseln.

Die eigenständige Außenform der Exclusive-Serie ist das Ergebnis zahlreicher Versuche, das optimale Mundstückgewicht herauszuarbeiten. Sie hat sich als unverkennbares Merkmal der JK Exclusive-Serie etabliert.

Die Exclusive-Export-Linie ist eine Ergänzung der jeweiligen Exclusive Serie. Die Ränder sind in Durchmesser und Randform mit dieser identisch, um ein Springen zwischen den Serien problemlos zu ermöglichen. Klanglich ist die Export-Linie auf symphonische Blasmusik und die klassische Brass-Band ausgerichtet.

Als Josef Klier im Jahr 1948 in Birkenfeld die Mundstückherstellung wieder aufnahm, sprach sich dies sofort bei den umliegenden US-Army-Bands herum.

Bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt waren hauptsächlich Mundstücke für Drehventilinstrumente gefertigt worden. Die Trompeter und Posaunisten der Army-Bands aber bevorzugten für ihre Instrumente eine andere Kesselform. Sie überließen Josef Klier Muster von Mundstücken, die in Mount Vernon, New York, hergestellt worden waren. Die von Roland Klier gefertigten detailgetreuen Kopien dieser Modelle wurden von den Army-Musikern begeistert angenommen.

Da diese Mundstücke ihren Ursprung in den USA hatten, war es für Josef Klier naheliegend, die neuen Modelle unter der JK-USA-Linie zusammenzufassen. Wir haben diese Bezeichnung im Andenken an Josef Klier bis heute beibehalten, auch wenn die Bezeichnung JK-Mount-Vernon-Line sicherlich treffender wäre.

Die Mundstücke mit Kölner Form wurden bei der Josef Klier KG in den vergangenen 120 Jahren immer wieder den aktuellen Anforderungen angepasst.

Dennoch sind diese Modelle grundsätzlich mit den Mundstücken vergleichbar, die Ignaz und Josef Klier noch in Graslitz gefertigt haben.
Sie bieten dem Bläser eine klangliche Alternative zu den JK Exclusive und USA Modellen.

EXCLUSIVE SERIES

Many producers of mouthpieces use model designations, which provide only insufficient information about cup diameter, cup depth and rim contour. At an early stage, Roland Klier noticed the disadvantages of these model designations which resulted for the brass player looking for a mouthpiece.

In 1964, along with the Exclusive Line, he drafted a logical and easy-to-understand system of designation, which enabled the player to recognize all relevant data from the model number at first glance. In addition, he develops a revolutionary concept of combining cup, bore and back bore, allowing the usage of Klier mouthpieces in every musical style.

The exceptionally large selection that the Exclusive Line offered provided every brass player the possibility to find his personal mouthpiece. Moreover, the rim contours of trumpet, cornet and flugelhorn mouthpieces with the same cup diameter are identical. This allows the player to quickly switch without any difficulty.

The unique outer shape of the Exclusive series is the result of numerous tests which had the aim of elaborating the optimum weight of the mouthpiece. It has established itself as a distinctive feature of the JK Exclusive series. The Exclusive Export Line is an enhancement of the Exclusive series. The rim diameter and shape are identical to those of the Exclusive series, allowing hassle-free switching between the series.

When Josef Klier resumed the production of mouthpieces in Birkenfeld in 1948, the news of this production quickly reached the surrounding bands of the US Army. Up to this time, he had chiefly produced mouthpieces for rotary valve instruments.

But trumpeters and trombonists of the Army bands prefered another cup shape for their instruments. They handed over samples of mouthpieces to Roland Klier, which had been produced in Mount Vernon, New York.

Accurate in every detail, the copies of these models produced by Roland Klier were greeted enthusiastically by the army musicians. As these mouthpieces had their origin in the US, Josef Klier thought it logical to unite the new models under the designation JK USA Line.

In memory of Josef Klier, we have maintained this designation up to today, even if the designation JK Mount Vernon Line would be more accurate.

In the past 120 years, the mouthpieces of the Cologne shape have been adapted by the Josef Klier KG repeatedly to the latest demands.

Nevertheless, these models are basically comparable to the mouthpieces manufactured by Ignaz and Josef Klier back in Graslitz. They offer to the players a tonal alternative to the JK Exclusive and USA models.

BAROQUE MODELS

Motivated by the strong trend towards true-to-original performances, we have been asked frequently for mouthpieces for Baroque instruments that are true to the original. During extensive tests, however, it has finally turned out that many brass players face serious difficulty with the original rim contours.

For this reason, we have copied old original mouthpieces in detail with regard to cup, bore and back bore designs for the JK models of Baroque trumpets and Baroque trombones. This way an optimum sound result is achieved. Only the rim contour has been slightly modified to answer the needs of today’s wind players.

Angeregt vom starken Trend zur originalgetreuen Aufführungspraxis wurden wir immer wieder nach originalgetreuen Mundstücken für Barockinstrumente gefragt. Bei umfangreichen Tests hat sich jedoch letztendlich herausgestellt, dass viele Bläser mit den originalen Randkonturen erhebliche Schwierigkeiten haben.

Deshalb wurden für die JK Modelle für Barocktrompete und Barockposaune alte Originalmundstücke hinsichtlich Kessel, Bohrung und Rückbohrung bis ins Detail kopiert, wodurch klanglich ein optimales Ergebnis erreicht wurde. Die Randkontur ist jedoch leicht modifiziert und auf diese Weise auf die Bedürfnisse des heutigen Bläsers abgestimmt.
